Summer Academics and Nonviolence Camp

In 2002, Youth for a Positive Image establish the Annual Summer Math and Science Camp as a one day workshop to help students get ready for the upcoming school year. Over the years studies have shown that students loose over 50% of what they learn during the school year over summer break. The camp serves Our primary focus at the camp is to reinforce the importance of a good education and become better students. Since then the camp as grown to become a week long camp to help students make the transition from middle school to high school meet their academic challenges and develop skills in Math, Science, Writing, Reading Skills, Peer pressure, Time Management, Conflict Resolution, and more?.. 

Annual College Tours

The purpose for the College tour is to expose students to opportunities for post-secondary education that will assist them in gaining admission to college or university of their choice. The College Campus Tours program supports schools and other educational programs in their efforts toward preparing students to successfully handle the complexities of today's society.  Our college tours focus on Ohio Colleges and Universities only.  On the tours, we focus on :
  • Majors and programs
  • Classroom visits
  • Financial Aid counseling
  • Admissions sessions
  • Dormitory life
  • Discussions with administration
  • Interaction with current students
  • Social Activities

All of which will help children become more active in their ability to choose a college, along with deciding on a major that would suite them.

Tutoring Program

Youth for a Positive Image offers tutoring throughout the school year for students who need assistance in facing their academic challenges.
Services offered:

·       One-on-one

·       Group tutoring (2-3 students in the same subject)

·       Academic sessions

In 2006 Youth for a Positive Image started a Tutor training workshops to help train volunteers to effectively communicate to help students achieve their academic goals.

Annual Scholarship Dinner

 Since 2001, Youth for a Positive Image has award over 32 scholarships ranging from $500-2,000 to high school seniors in Columbus and surrounding areas.  Youth for a Positive Image scholarship recipient do not directly receive the money until document confirmation from the college or university they are attending.   Once students are selected the winners are invited to the Annual Scholarship Dinner where they will be honor at the event.  The event brings members of the community together as a way to not only show what Youth For A Positive Image is doing, but also acknowledging our winner's accomplishments, and the accomplishments of others in the community from individuals, groups, organizations. The scholarship applications are available throughout the year before the deadline.
